Explore the world
Our students have always had a thirst for adventure and discovery. Multiple offices across campus offer international programs that make it easy for you to satisfy that desire to explore new cultures and ideas while still pursuing your degree.
Studying abroad is an important part of the DU experience for both undergraduates and graduates—a chance to immerse yourself in a new perspective and use that knowledge and understanding to strengthen your studies, your community and your career.
The Undergraduate Study Abroad Experience
Most undergraduate students choose to study abroad in fall of their junior year. Our Office of International Education guides them through the entire process, from finding a program that meets their needs and goals, to applying, to working to ensure any health or safety concerns are addressed.
With more than 150 DU Partner Programs offered in over 50 countries, our students find experiences that advance their current academic work and passions. The Cherrington Global Scholars program helps offset some of the significant costs of studying abroad on these programs, like roundtrip airfare and visa fees.
In addition to academics, students explore and surround themselves with new cultures and ideas while making connections with locals and other program participants. Prior to departure, students develop cross-cultural communication skills that help them maximize these experiences abroad in a required Exploring Global Citizenship course.
We strive to develop cross-cultural connections and the new perspectives that come with them by encouraging students to study and live abroad for at least one quarter. But there are also opportunities for students to study abroad on short-term or faculty-led programs through their academic department.

Many want the chance to study their major from a different point of view and expose themselves to new academic challenges. Others look to familiarize themselves with the history and culture of a place that's long interested them, and pick up language skills along the way. Students also use study abroad as a chance to actively contribute to bettering their world
Regardless of what makes you decide to go abroad, you'll have the opportunity to expand your mind and deepen your experience. Not only will you reap the personal benefits of a widened perspective, but a study of 37,012 students indicated that individuals who study abroad are more likely to see their GPA's increase and graduate on time (Inside Higher Ed).
