HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
Our style is really a hybrid. We have so many inspirations that come from so many different places and try to implement them in our images. We love the raw emotion of photojournalism and the seductive, mysterious look of fashion photography. In short, our style is simple, fresh and love-filled. We believe in romantic lighting, incredible backgrounds and most important the relationship between you and your loved ones. As far as our photojournalistic side goes – we never interrupt a moment. We never pose situations that are already so magical on their own. We are an observer most of the time with very limited intrusion only when it is desired to achieve a particular artistic vision. Ninety percent of our images are completely natural and un-posed. That’s why we say we help create and capture life’s love-filled moments.
WE LOVE YOUR STYLE BUT WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SOME TRADITIONAL PORTRAITS TOO. IS THIS SOMETHING YOU DO?
We do traditional portraiture at most of our weddings. Even the most modern brides still want the heirlooms that family portraiture creates. We do not, however, conduct portrait sessions in a traditional way. Instead, they are very loose, fun, and show off your personality.
DO YOU “PHOTOSHOP” YOUR IMAGES?
Photoshop can definitely do some incredible things but when it comes to wedding images we believe less photoshop is definitely more! Our editing involves some clever wizardry to remove blemishes, unavoidable distractions in backgrounds or the odd eye swap but we will never drastically change the image, or you, and we definitely won’t add in anything that wasn’t actually there.
CAN WE HAVE THE RAW FILES?
Raw files are huge and without the right programme to open them, completely useless to you so our collections include edited, high resolution jpegs. Absolutely perfect for printing and sharing.
WHY IS THERE TWO OF YOU?
Not only do we love working together but our previous clients have also loved that there’s two of us. Not only does it mean that your entire day is captured from two angles and from start to finish but it also means that we can get things done a lot quicker, allowing you more time to do what’s really important; spend time with your family & friends! We need no more than an hour for formal portraits and usually we end up with double the amount of images without any extra effort from you!
WHAT IS THE BEST TIME OF DAY FOR PHOTOGRAPHS?
The best thing to do is look at the sunset time for your wedding date and work backwards from there. Keeping the last hour and a half of the day dedicated to your photographs will give you the most flattering and beautiful light of the day (known as the ‘golden hour’). Family photos will happen after the ceremony so be sure to allow at least 30 minutes for these before you need to leave for your formal photographs. To eliminate harsh shadows and limit the amount of time you and your guests are standing outside in the sun consider having your ceremony after 3pm.
DO YOU NEED A SHOT LIST?
Just like the Chef doesn’t need a recipe from you we don’t need a shot list so you can sit back and relax when it comes to your photographs. As we shoot in a photo-journalistic style we capture the day as it unfolds naturally. We want to be completely present on the day, and shoot creatively rather than work to a specific list. We do recommend a family photo list for formal portraits after the ceremony. This way we can work through the list together without forgetting anyone important. As for the details, we’re all over it! Both Simon and I love curating images to include your invitations, rings, the dress and any personal items.
DO YOU TRAVEL?
Yes! Absolutely, we would love nothing more than to photogrpahed love-up couples outside of little old NZ so if you’re planning a destination wedding or are based overseas and love what we do lets talk! You never know, we may just be in your part of the world at the same time. Anything is possible!
